The year appears to open and close with some rather significant events - opening probably with the change in presidency in the US, likely before the end of March... a good year for business, at least through the first six months, and a good time for starting new ventures - however expect modest results and be willing to extend yourself, to be sure you are taking a holistic view, considering the effects and the consequences, both positive and negative....
God and Government seem to be intervening in the affairs of state... In response to public outcry and demands, we see more money being allocated to the needy, whether that be classified as the poor or to general social programs... an economic growth spurt, appears to be the result of some significant joint ventures, corporate and between nations... The merger movement will die down, to be replaced with significant joint ventures... the Canadian banks will circumvent the legislation against mergers through such joint ventures, which will in the end prove to be more advantageous than the mergers would have been.
Justice and fair play in the air - a time when folks can recover from losses, people more in the mood to bury the hatchet as the millennium approaches... beware however of any significant peace agreements during this period, one at least is very much a disguise for opposite intentions.
There appears to be a female rising to a position of authority on the global scene, may play a key role in settling confusion over peace agreements in the Middle East, a strong personality who will become more and more prominent in the early years of the new millennium. This could be Albright, from the US, who is seeming to be gaining strength and respect from those who formerly discounted her.
A rough winter with the after affects of el nino and the presence, if weak, of la nina... while temperatures will moderate and normalize in some parts of the world, the environment is showing as increasingly out of balance, we see a continuing of the major storms that have afflicted us, now perhaps caused by other disruptions within the earth, quakes and volcanoes erupting unexpectedly.... the ring of fire heating up...
Serious disruptions of the food distribution systems with essentials becoming more and more expensive in some parts of the world... as much as possible you are encouraged to grow and make your own - no part of the world seems spared from at least some disruptions and shortages this year. Eastern European, Asian, African and South American countries seem most seriously afflicted here, the result of spot droughts and catastrophic flooding, freezing, then soaring temperatures.
Dreams and visions of either a nuclear explosion or a volcanic eruption deep below the ocean, appeared to be in the Pacific - peaceful calm waters suddenly turn into a funnel cloud, the waters boil and the walls of water heat the sands - whole islands disappear and when the ocean becomes still again, new islands have been created - all on the Pacific are affected....
An underlying tone of growing spirituality, a sense of the Godessence present in our everyday lives , as if God and the power of prayer gains strength....
A good year for relationships, increasing stability - the sense of having weathered the storms of the earlier part of the decade, pairing up now and strengthening personal relationships, generally becoming more conscious of the self in relationships, more awake to what we need as individuals.

The Internet and Web worlds will continue to dominate and transform the ways that we manage a wide variety of communications, and globally. China and other third world nations will initiate programs to enable limited, if highly controlled access to the vast World Library that the Interenet and the Web are fast becoming. While in the last few years the focus has been on the design and development of good web sites, we see this focus shifting dramatically - 1998 will be the year of building traffic on the web. We also see innovations in the use of bulk mail capabilities as more and more comapnies decide to take advantage of the commercial opportunities the Internet environment provides... We predict that in 1998, we’ll really see the Web go commercial. With this movement we’ll see more and more multimedia events broadast over the web, and local events using the web to manage their commercial communications, training and conference requirements. With this shift, we expect the marriage between radio and the Internet to gain strength as more and more users decide to tune in while they work and the broadcasting industry will find they have many more advertisers wanting to take advantage of the opportunity for local entrepreneurs to penetrate the global marketplace.
We expect the Canadian and International Banking systems will loosen their hold over online transactions and open the doors to an easier world in which ecommerce can flourish and we believe that 1998 will see more and more businesses learning to manage operations more efficiently through the Web.
Education, Health and Technology will continue to be the primary focus for growth and change. Here we see even greater strength and growth in the field of alternative medicine as individuals begin to take more responsibility for their own health. We see also a greater desire for change in the educational system and polarization between those who believe the system should be responsible vs those who want family and community taking more responsibility for the well-being of our youth. Books on spirituality and personal growth will continue to top the best sellers list - to everyone’s surprise.
We see also a greater division between left and right, rich and poor, radical factions on each side gaining strength and attention - this seeming to be as part of a longer term process of clarifying the issues so that “right action” can be taken. Under the surface we see this polarization as the forerunner to an equalization of prosperity - at the same time we are also noticing a rising public interest in altruism, a growing concern for the poor and “unloved” - generally - and this a global trend - a greater interest and reaching out to those in need with offers of help now being somewhat more realistic . We see this time as creating openings for real communications around global economic and environmental issues - the mood now solutions oriented, but still crisis-driven...
This a time when “the public” will begin demanding their rights again, individuals taking more control of their lives translates to a larger number of people wanting a voice in how the affairs of our world are managed.... we may be seeing record turnouts at the polls next year, wherever there are elections
Archeologists uncover a connection between the new and old worlds dating back to the years before Christ, a time when the new world was to the Egyptian civilizations what the Swiss bankers have been to ours, a place to secret and secure one’s wealth...
While it seems unlikely that hemp and marijuana will be legalized before the year 2000, we will see a much stronger movement towards legalization and more and more communities choosing to allow its use at least for medical reasons.
Unfortunately, we are seeing the release of another illegal chemical among the young of this world - this a deadly drug with many serious and long-term side-effects... BASED ON WHAT WE SEE IN THE DRUG COMMUNITY, WE URGE ALL TO AVOID ANY UNNATURAL SUBSTANCES!!!!! This drug we see being created and tested now in a private laboratory, by someone wearing glasses, working mostly by themselves but with intentions and contacts to sell... a mistake is made in the final formula and the devastating results are not immediately obvious. Those who take it gradually lose their ability to reason - this drug literally seems to eat away the brain cells....
We also see an increase in terrorist activity - attacks on our home turf causing a real fear and desire to close down many borders, at least for brief period of time. We see labour taking a stronger voice - and getting more support from the public in their demands for change - increased privatization of our public services begins to see a bit of a backlash by the end of the year and there are greater commitments forced from government to fund social services....
We are also sensing a toppling or overthrow in the financial and political envornment, at both regional and global levels....
Around the World
An active and busy year... the appearance of stability, the bullies and righteous right feeling as if they have gained some control and acknowledgment - but just as everyone is settling down and getting the rhythm of the times, there comes the shake up... this will be an easy year to fool ourselves - while we allow the media to keep us distracted with the busyness and the economic upswing, we may find that we have overlooked some significant and ominous patterns...
Many will live with a vague sense of uneasiness and plans and actions will be postponed as a result - this is not a year to attempt to move quickly unless you have thought the actions out carefully....
Technology is in a sense on hold until after the Y2K disaster is known - and it appears afterall to be as problematic in some parts of the world as predicted.... the Western world seems to be prepared and ready for the most part by the end of the year... problems appear to come from the Third World countries, as anticipated, however, there may be a last minute recovery... someone appears to come to the rescue here... or at least wants to and offers to....
The Pope appears to be stricken with illness either by March or in July and appears to be replaced within one month of his passing. It seems there is some controversy or difficulty about the choice of the next.
There appears to be a change of government coming in Ontario, announcements to come by spring... much to the province’s surprise, Harris’s media campaigns may have had the desired the effect, he appears to be staying in office for a second term.
Countries in the News:
Lots of news out of South America in 1999, a continent coming out of a coma.... Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Chile - economically busted, environmentally overwhelmed.... snakes on the move here.... an ugliness to be uncovered, Northern countries are again affected by a series of terrible storms that turn whole villages into mud - something unusual from deep in the rain forests, at the roots of the great Amazon, a new discovery, a great streak of light that seems to rise high over the mountains on the northern boundary perhaps, a rising star, a desire for some sort of economic or political union between the northern countries of South America....
China reels from environmental and economic traumas, yet continues to promise aid and support in any efforts against the west - again beware China, reaching out for western ways and help, and with the other hand helping those who would destroy... duplicity and treachery in the air around the Chinese. In the background, armies preparing to march, we see many men in uniform here, hungry...
Asia continues to be in turmoil from increasing uprising, the young people attempting to push out the old, angry and resentful at collusion, corruption and the condescension of the authorities - many killed in ugly dark riots that last through the days, much valuable property burned and ransacked.... it is dark and smoky over southern Asia.... The Japanese economy continues it’s slow and deadly spiral downwards, verging on the edge of collapse all year... and the news from Hong Kong is disturbing, a culture beginning to revolt against its keepers.
Australia suffers, economically and environmentally with the western and Northern coasts experiencing an onslaught of troubles from the waters - the Coral seas in serious trouble now. Drastic changes and contrasts, floods and droughts, times of extreme cold, short bursts of strong heat, a difficult time to focus on the political and economic restructuring necessary to succeed... a sense of some strong leaders arising from this confusion and chaos... Australia may produce some of the new millennium’s strongest leaders, men and women of courage and stamina with creative solutions to share around the globe... the sense of Australia is of a birthing power...
Greenland also seems so produce some unusual news, and also has the sense of birthing associated with it... more land appearing, resources somehow made more accessible... The fog and steam over the land beginning to clear. All the countries in the far North appear to call an alarm of sorts this year - grave concern over the melting of the poles, the effects of global warming now pushing science to take some action. The silence around Antarctica is broken with startling news.
Illness, "plague", pestilences force the peoples of India , Africa and the Middle East to close borders for brief periods of time... there’s a new call for the enforcement of stronger health standards in third world countries. But poltical chaos continues and change is heartbreakingly, deathly slow.
Spain in turmoil and all the countries around the Mediterranean suffering from abnormal cold followed by extreme heat, the sense almost of the northern seas and rivers drying up. A harsh cold winter in Europe, heavy clouds hang over the land all year...
In July, a Big Shift...
The first six months of the year appear as "more of the same’, events continuing to unfold pretty much as we all anticipate around the world. But 1999 contains some surprises for us, and we see these beginning to unfold in earnest by the end of July... Nostradamus saw this as a time of war... whatever it is, we feel that events around midsummer will serve to shift the course of events for the remainder of the year, and that this will affect many on a very personal level. From July on, the year seems unpredictable.
The end of the year sees government taking the lead - controlling wild, mad celebrations at the turn of new century - and attempting to get a grip on the Y2K problem that wreaks havoc among the financial communities of the world.
