2004, Tones of the Times

by Danielle Daoust and Mary-Anne Alvaro

how 2004 will play out in our private lives...

On a personal level, this is a social time in our lives... in every respect, not just in terms of wanting to get out and about with friends and family, but also in terms of developing a stronger and more vocal social consciousness. We want to be more loving this year... That said, this isn't the best year to expect a commitment, especially if you're not already in a relationship... while there will be lots of fun and romance available, if that's what you're seeking, it's not likely that in 2004 you will find the one who wants to settle down and have children.

This will be a great year to have a party! But not so good for job changes... might best hang in until next year, if you can.

We'll want to relax a bit this year! We'll all be very busy this year, and we'll be inundated with so much happening around the world that our heads will be spinning! The year will be gone before we've had time to think about it.

Folks continue to hold back on personal spending this year, with a greater focus on home and family... a good year for private contractors, anyone who supports the home improvement business.... a sense that folks will be inclined to make a few larger planned purchases this year, as opposed to the spontaneous shopping that keeps the malls busy.

This is the Year of Wood Monkey in the Chinese system of astrology- so expect things to be very busy this year, lots of activity to distract you. This trickster will put us in the mood to co-operate with each other a little more, but cunning monkey likes to play games, so pay attention!

In Numerology, 2004 is a "6" year, another transition year, and another year of conflicts and disputes, more restlessness. "6" is about vision, commitment and caring. Underlined by Monkey's desire for co-operation, the vibrational frequency of this 6 year should produce a greater interest in public service and public issues... a year when people will be more inclined to work together to help the disadvantaged, wherever they are, and whatever their circumstances. We want to help the homeless and are more attentive to the needs of women and children in this family-oriented year. We'll be more concerned about justice and more demanding of fair play, more interested in creating harmonious relationships. This could be a good year for some big breakthroughs in the field of medicine.

On the downside "6" also speaks to the desire to shirk our responsibilities, to accept the superficial, to allow ourselves to be manipulated by promises of future financial rewards... Many deals to be made this year, but not all of them are good.... 2004 could be called the Year of the Big Con. We must even more carefully and diligently hone our powers of discernment this year!

2004, Another Transitional Year

Victoria, the senior medium on the Global Psychics team gives us a good summary of what we might expect for this year:

I feel a very rocky economy continuing in the USA with Canada not that stable either. I feel the dollars will continue their fluctuation. I honestly do not see any huge reductions in interest rates. I feel Bush's popularity will continue to decline. He will try and prop it up with more red or orange alerts and referrals to 9/11 and frequent mentions of terrorism. He loses his credibility (again) early in the new year. His ride to the presidential election is a roller coaster.

I feel some very large world disasters and more loss of life. I feel the middle east stays a tinder box with continuing anti American attacks.

Tony Blair squeaks back into office by the skin of his teeth. Am not sure that Bush will be re-elected.

Anti Americanism is on the rise. I feel their economy stats to stabilize towards the end of 2004 but I do not see recovery for awhile.

I am nervous that the queen may be delivered a health problem in 04 and that Prince Phillip's health also starts to fail. Do not feel death for either one of them but shaky health. The queen recovers but Philip does not recover, nor does he die, but he is ailing.

I feel Canada finally starts to get the recognition she has long deserved. Paul Martin is not as popular as some would hope but he works hard at saving himself.

I see Saddam held but not brought to trial in 04 but early in 05.

A quote from last year's predictions, fits with the tones for this year also:

"There is a lot of energy gathered around surreptitious activity, backroom meetings and decisions. While the outer motion will appear to move for global peace, there is another reality also in motion, opposing this movement. We will probably see terrorist activity step up around the world, folks growing more fearful... not just because of the political threat facing us, but because of the environmental devastation that could be rained on community after community, and the resulting economic hardship."

While Monkey's influence on the year, coupled with the lighter energy of the 6 frequency will bring a sense of co-operation, and put us in the mood to socialize, this is not the year to let down your guard. Another year  to catch your breath, but don't be tricked into believing that all is right with the world! Be alert. Storms abrewing...

General Trends

A word of explanation: When we sat down to the annual predictions this year, Mary-Anne felt a little boggled. "The trouble is that there's so much going on this year that it's hard to know what to talk about or even how to focus." To help her open up, she asked to see what would be in the news, and specifically, from a Canadian perspective. I, on the other hand, asked to see the significant themes and key issues around the world... this is what came through.

In the News Around the World:

Many small incidents create a worrisome environment around the world…. There is a great need to look in new directions for solutions this year – whether environmental, political, social or economic… the old ways just aren't working....

There were a number of background messages this year of unexpected and subtle shifts in relations with friends… partners changing alliances leading to unexpected turmoil – external circumstances force break-ups of some alliances and create opportunities for some rather unusual collaborations…

There was also a subtle but strong message of hope, rewards for efforts, dreams potentialized – if we're willing to put our best foot forward right now, we can make it easier for ourselves in the long term…

There was a specific warning to be careful about what we think is good for us, especially spiritually, and in terms of homeland security…beware the warnings associated with “the sign of the beast”.

We see real disappointment in high level agreements that simply don't work out as expected…

Another huge public scandal… perhaps a personal scandal in the Whitehouse, something that might be more representative of a Democratic gov't. We also see questioning of the level of military spending - as weighed against the results.

Editor's Note: The scandal may well have been about the huge sponsorship scandal affecting the Canadian gov't in 2004. But then we heard about the abuse of Iraqi prisoners... scandalous in the extreme.

A very fast year – typical of the Monkey… blink and you'll find it's 2005…

Spin doctoring in this election year is at its peak… very effective…still, suspicions are raised, it would be wise of those in high places to pay attention to the demands and interests of the young… more young people are showing that they want more of a voice, greater representation… there is a growing distrust of old school or traditional values and beliefs… this may especially apply in third world countries and among the disadvantaged in North American society. But it also applies to big business.

The public begins demanding answers – but there are a few at the top who continue to keep a lid on things… their hold is weakening though… and as a result they are becoming stronger in their attacks… big military spending is justified more on fear – fueled by rumour -  than on fact….

The world's problems continue – like an endurance test, although conflicts don't appear to be escalating, and there do not appear to be any new “war fronts” appearing on the global landscape… except perhaps in the field of health... Still, the existing conflicts are not going away… and in fact, there is a growing frustration and fatigue with the continued battles, especially in the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan. … the troops aren't coming home… and the battle is hard on them, we are fighting in desolate parts of the world…

We are plagued by enough terrorist activity to justify our fears… There could be an incident on the water that is averted, perhaps at the last minute.

Major struggles are showing around our "middles", whether this is a rash of digestive problems, or drought in the mid-west, hurricanes in Central America, or more intense fighting in the Middle East... anything deemed to be "in the middle", central, will be challenged... and with the wind, fire and flood conditions we see prevalent this year, we could see the downtowns of many major cities suffer from environmental problems... for example, severe winds blowing parts of buildings away so that core areas must be evacuated... this has already begun happening and will intensify in 2004

Still, the public has more control this year – it is an election year after all… many promises are made... and will be broken... remember this is a Monkey Year, and politicians will be at their trickster best this year... stand for those who show a strong sense of personal integrity... and flexibility!

Many messages to beware the elements this year, Fire, Wind and Water will roar in 2004 in every way… we will see awesome storms, record-breaking conditions, enormous floods, powerful hurricanes and tornadoes… and even greater destruction by fire…  and we will see passions aroused beyond reason, riots breaking out.

That we did, record-breaking hurricanes, and a year ending with the largest disaster ever, the tsunami...

A “Stab in the Back” comes out of nowhere…  Appears to be motivated by money, financial considerations, could be over resources... Canada must be prepared to stand up and protect its resources over the next years, especially water... there is a mounting pressure on Canada to free up some of its fresh water resources.

Around the World  - Hot Spots

Storms around Morocco – west coast of Africa, waters, currents affected - a strong sense of problems with the Gulf Stream, affecting weather conditions in Europe  and North Western Africa in general.

Editor's note: Feb 2004, since publishing this, the potential for trouble here has recently been reported through a number of different environmental agencies, a result of the melting in Antarctica, closing down the Gulf Stream in a sense..

Turkey is Hot… earthquakes, fires, but this could also be good news, a feeling of a rising strength from Turkey, a cohesiveness internally that appears to be translating to some economic improvements and a greater stability... appears as one of the few stabilizing forces in the Middle East - and as a result, may be a target... conditions around Saudi Arabia somehow worsen, a deep anger wants loose from that part of the world.

South American countries appear to be generally gaining strength, people feeling more secure, but drugs remain as the prominent issue in the way of their development – on the upside, we see a stronger sense of social activism coming from the peoples of this continent, a resourcefulness in finding practical solutions – but the healing process is slow… a need for persistence and perseverance… commitment.

There could be a terrible disaster around the Amazon this year - a warning to stop the rape of our rain forests..Philippines is a hot spot… could be a hotbed for terrorist activity… could produce a powerful strike in Japan.

China is suffering this year, the environment wreaks havoc over some very large areas... and at the same time, the country is moving with a great sense of urgency to try to re-educate it's people and update living standards.

India also suffers the same sort of grand-scale environmental destruction... in fact, there may not be many parts of the globe this year that escape the extreme weather conditions.

Economically

Employment will be an issue in many parts of the world… as a general rule, this is not the best year to be contemplating major career or job changes… hang in with what you are doing, make the most of your current opportunities and wait for easier times to forge ahead.

The Canadian economy continues to gain strength – but beware the illusions, we are at a crossroads in some ways…

India is a rising giant economically, but remote areas are suffering, and there is a greater demand to share the wealth with the poor…  still, there is a growing respect from the world community… Pakistan, on the other hand, is a worrisome entity… although apparently quiet and co-operative, wanting to improve their economic position right now, there are many in that country who are vengeful, ready to create chaos wherever they can… and again, weather makes progress difficult.

A greater stability in the travel industry this year, but the cost increases… business starts looking for new ways of meeting – teleconferencing and other technical solutions replace business travel… Yet, the industry will become more dependent on business travel and the upper middle classes... taking  a flight to Orlando becomes more a thing of the past for the average family… and even driving and other alternative modes of travel become less cost-effective… resorts and tourist centers would be wise to turn their marketing on the local and regional markets for best returns this year…  This is not only because of the cost of travel, and only minimally affected by terrorist activity in isolated pockets, but perhaps especially because of the fears triggered around disease and infection… folks decide to stay home more as the year progresses…

Gas prices continue to rise…

The entertainment industry this year is light, “don't worry, be happy” seems to be the flavour of the day, distract yourself with some fluff -  not many meaningful productions this year… which isn't to say that there isn't some good entertainment, just that little of it will contain any real messages,  “more of the same”. New twists on old themes.

Money isn't easy this year… although there is some easing, refueling of the US economy, the economy holds with a juggle, and money and trade rights become the spins used to manipulate the public into supporting certain unique or unusual relationships.

A sense also of missed diplomatic opportunities… we are still not winning in Iraq.Despite the manipulations around the gold and silver markets, we continue to recommend these as the safest investment over the next few years.

This is also a good year for investing in resources, and in health innovations, technology - yes, it's coming back, especially with the recent announcement of Bush's space programs... and of course - although we can't recommend them as investments, there will be a lot of activity around anything to do with homeland security and the military, Heavy Metals, mining.

Health:

A lot more money is being spent on health-related issues this year. The public purse is opening up to help the many who need... Finally, people are awakening to the devastation AIDS is causing around the world, especially in Africa.

We have another year of SARS-like scares, new variations of bacteria and viruses that spread very quickly… sourced in Asia… we see many small public meetings being held where people are being informed of what to do and how to protect themselves. Much focus on China – and pressure to clean up their act… they are also reaching for power, and will want to be perceived as worthy of a leadership role, so we see  a lot of activity within their borders, a kind of rush to update agricultural and industrial standards. Resulting in a significant increase in interaction with the West… more trade, easing of travel restrictions… greater movement across their borders… we'll learn a lot more about China… how they live and work

The good news is that this the year for some exciting announcements in the field of medicine... some real breakthroughs showing here... perhaps as a result of alliances or partnerships that are formed.... some of these seem to have a direct impact on us in our homes and personal relationships.

The Environment

A wake up call coming… the coming of light, a warning bell… if heeded, disaster can be averted, this affects our homes and our daily life… a global concern that affects every individual – appears in several different ways in this reading… fears of “a nuclear winter" are validated… not surprising that North America is experiencing one of the coldest winters on record.

Editor's Note: Feb 11.2004, my spine shivered this morning when I read about the potential of a supervolcano under Yellowstone getting ready to blow - one of the authors used the term "a nuclear winter" in describing what might happen if this should occur.

But then the tsunami hit and I realized why Indonesia had always been winking away in my peripheral vision...

“Rough waters” ahead – a sense of the wind creating huge waves that break down many coastline… huge tsunamis developing the Pacific?  This is also a serious problem for Chile and Argentina, with coastlines devastated by the meltdown of Antarctica. Weather affecting crops and livestock.Flooding in China, around the Nanggen and Mekong rivers…

Activity – underwater volcanoes?- around the Murray Fracture, NE of Hawaii – a large wave forms…

In the US

Fortress America – the US defends its borders as never before, - there is no lightening up of security… and as a result, Canadians – and others - are forced to be less dependent on trade with the US… the Bush regime continues to be intolerant, demanding a strict adherence to the letter of the law.Canadians – and others - continue to be disappointed in relations with the US – border issues worsen…. A growing dissatisfaction with and distrust of US and their foreign relations policies… more and more questioning of the US arrogance, a growing discontent with their attitude that  “we know what is best for everybody”.

Martha Stewart will not fare will in her legal disputes...  corporate America is being given a message to clean up its act... that said, she may win the battle and lose the war... a sense that the penalities will be light, at least in terms of the law, but her empire will never be what it once was... we won't ostracize her quite the way we did OJ, but she has lost some respect that she cannot recover. At this time Martha is still in jail... but her empire is recovering, appears to be in good shape financially.

A similar message for Michael Jackson, although his fans are loyal, there is disappointment here... there is a serious depression developing around this man, a real risk that he could end up hurting himself.Trump plays his trump this year… because he has maintained a young focus in all of his business endeavours, this could be a very good year for Donald Trump. And now he is getting married again...

The Summary

At least 2004 will bring a smoother ride for some of us! Another interesting undertone for the year is the sense that the energy of Love is growing around the planet. While on a personal level, this could lead to many happy marriages in the next few years, on a global level it is having a very real effect on our direction as a species and a planet. We are becoming more compassionate and considerate, more willing to take responsibility for our thoughts and feelings, more willing to express Love, and to take heartfelt action.   The more loving energy we put out, the more likely it is that we can enter a Golden Age.

Let us Pray... for a Loving Peace, a global prosperity. In Peace and Love, we prosper.

The best news for 2004 is the sense that this is a outwardly calm year which this means that folks can focus on their families and personal lives. This is a terrific year for social life, we'll be in the mood to party, to connect with friends and family for some good times.... and we will also be in the mood to pay more attention to others and their needs... we see a growing sense of compassion and personal responsibility, a greater social consciousness. That makes me happy...   The more loving energy we put out, the more likely it is that we can enter a Golden Age. Let us Pray...  In Love, we prosper.

Mary-Anne, and Danielle are the operating owners of Global Psychics Inc. Early in their career, they began publishing annual predictions as a way of tracking and validating their work as psychics... their predictions have proven so accurate that every year-end now brings a great deal of pressure to publish the next set... But it's one of those processes that can't be rushed... usually takes as much as a month to complete from the time we first open the channels to the time we post them... we hope you find this information useful.
