The Meaning of the Root Numbers

The numbers 1-9 (root numbers) represent the nine archetypal human characteristics we all possess to some degree. Each number is a symbol for a universal pattern. Its symbols and patterns define specific influences, environmental possibilities, events, situations, and potential experiences.

What the Numbers Mean

POSITIVE QUALITIES – self-assured, strong drive, natural explorer, individualistic, courageous, leadership, determination, creative, original, ambitious, goal-oriented, strong opinions of right & wrong, high energy.

You are a born leader, and demand respect and freedom of thought and action. You protect and provide for those you love. You can achieve much in life and ideally should be your own boss, or at least in a position where you can assert your own ideas.

VOCATIONS – you are attracted to the military and government institutions.

CHALLENGES – stubbornness, impatience with the shortcomings of others, overconfidence, selfishness, conceit, and an over-concern with appearance. If anger and aggressiveness are a problem, you could become too domineering, vindictive, or even violent. Also, if you deny the challenge of the 1 to provide strength and leadership , allowing others to make decisions for you, you may find yourself unable to hold down a job, marriage etc.

Your No. One Destiny is the courage to think freely and to develop new concepts. You will be a source of creative inspiration and a leader respected and unchallenged. VOCATIONS – many writers, poets, actors, and musicians are born under the 3 Life Path- discipline and commitment are required to fully develop these artistic abilities. Working with others in any creative or artistic endeavor is a good choice. Successful teachers are often number 3’s.

CHALLENGES – gullibility. You can become cynical or sarcastic when depressed. If you’re disorganized or irresponsible you can have difficulty handling money. If the imagination is suppressed in order to remain a serious adult, you could become overly sensitive and scattered.

Your destiny number is three. It is beauty and social grace. You will be an instrument of beauty, moving through the lives of others and spreading the joys of life. Your success depends on developing the instincts of the performer. If you follow the vibrations of your number three destiny, you will become like a sensitive and selective camera lens picking up rays of light around you and projecting your personal image on others to amuse, entertain and inspire them. 6 is the mother/fatherhood number, and is harmonious with all of the other numbers. You are the compassionate teacher and the healer. You try to maintain harmony within the family or group. Your charm and charisma attract the people and support that you need. You provide culture and refinement, and are often admired (but remain humble). You belong to groups that help the homeless, battered women, and endangered species. Your task in life is to develop the necessary tools to be truly helpful, so that you will be well equipped to support and ground others. Myths and symbols speak to 6, whose communication is more connected with the heart than the mind – religion is a natural venue.

VOCATIONS – business, any area of healing, teaching, hospitality, and anything related to animals. You are talented in music and the visual and performing arts.

CHALLENGES – jealousy, possessiveness. CHALLENGES – you are often striving for greater accomplishments while being dissatisfied with the results. You can have difficulty accepting lifes’ natural limitations, and until you master your emotions, life is a series of intense highs and lows, where everything is dramatized. When not in harmony with your true nature, you can become moody, aloof, uncertain, and ungrateful, blaming others for your troubles. 9 can be the most selfish of all the number patterns, when it wants everything for him/herself, simply for the sake of possession.

Your destiny number nine is selflessness. Encompassing love for all. This is one that is generous, benevolent and patient. Your horizons are broad - almost limitless. You may turn to be a source of inspiration to others which is your ultimate opportunity. Potential and great capacity for human understanding, breath of vision and depth of insight. You must develop tolerance and empathy for people, their need and their motivations that transcends biases or prejudices.
