About Communicating with Puppies

Hi! My real name's Heather and I'm 15 years old. I have a cocker-spaniel, terrier, poodle mix dog named Hondo and I'm wondering just how to communicate with him. I've "heard" things from him, but I can't talk back. Just how can you talk back to your animal? My brother somehow did and found out why Hondo was afraid of water (it was because he thought he was drowning when he saw the water rising in the tub), but my brother's forgotten how since that one time. I'd also like to hold conversations with Hondo rather than getting only temporary flashes in my head. How long does it take you for you to get a response from your pet?

Dear Heather, It sounds like you're well on your way to communicating. Hondo talks to you in your head right, maybe makes a few gestures and barks to go along with it? You've responded to him either in your head or by talking.

That's all there is to it. If you notice carefully you might find that Hondo adds a smell and an emotion to his wants and desires. When you respond to him, add a smell of it and your emotional response to his statement. Hondo is sending you flashes because he thinks that is what you want him to send. Hondo's response is just a quick as your's but either listen for that soft gentle voice that you'll recognize as Hondo's and remember to send a smell back when it's important. Have fun with it! Laura

Here's Laura's response to a second similar question.

You should just shut your eyes and see if there is an impression of your puppy. If there is you might want to send her a picture of the two of you an a hug, or something nice like that. She might respond in the visualization by licking your face. That's how to start the process. Then she can start to "tell" you things that interest her. Just be open to receiving the impressions of her thoughts. When you start to train her show her a picture in your mind of what you WANT her to do. Don't even entertain a thought of her misbehaving or ignoring your request!  When you are gone think of her and say "Hi!" Mostly just enjoy your dog and be light about the communicating. Let it be easy. Have fun! Laura

How Do I Talk With My Animals

Hi!  I'm a 13 year old Swedish girl who's very interested in talking with animals. I  really want to learn how to do it. I've got some help from another girl who's talking with animals, but it doesn't work for me, yet. What I now is that I should try to think of nothing, say the animals name and ask "Are you there" or "Can you hear me". Then I sometimes got some words or sentences in my head. The most of the time one or two words. I'm not sure if it's the animal or my own thoughts. I talk to my two horses an my rabbits. From one of the horses I have got some words, and som pictures from the rabbits. But I want to learn more about how to talk with animals. PLEASE HELP ME! Anneli

Dear Anneli,

You're doing fine.  Just relax and be easy with it.  Then your pets will feel easier about trying to contact you.  When you try and force your animals to talk to you or try and force them to talk only about specific things they can become resistive and feel that you are becoming intrusive about their thoughts.  If you remain easy with them and keep it light then they will become more confident about your relationship with them and in time they will open up more to you.

You can read a few books about animal communication. Art Myers has a book, Communicating With Animals.  You can read about others' experiences and their thoughts on animals. Just relax.  It will come if you're easy with it. Laura
